The people’s recipe book?

I came across this site recently and it seems interesting: In an attempt to create a people’s recipe book, Food52 will hold recipe contests every week for a year, and at the end of the year they publish the 52 winning recipes. The recipes are voted on by “the people”, or the people that care to try any of these recipes anyhow. While I will probably not vote, I will try some of the recipes out, particularly the entries for the “Your Best Way to Cook Greens” contest week. Here are the ones I’m thinking of making:

I am often misanthropic. Right now, misanthropy’s at an all time high! Personally, I think this feeling emerges not from a general hatred of people, but from a desire to expect more from people, to think people are better, more considerate than they really are.. followed by eventual disappointment.

I don’t know if this is true for everyone, but it is certainly true for me.

my whole grain strawberry scones

I had heard that scones were akin to rocks: very dry and hard.. and could quite possibly break your teef. I’ve never had a real scone before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect the result to be. I liked my result though. it wasn’t too dry at all. Kneading the dough really brought out the sweetness of the strawberries:

I’ve always wanted to make my own bread, and I’ve been seeing a lot of good results from food bloggers all over with this recipe. Unfortunately for me, I don’t have a nice cast-iron pot with a lid, so I had to do it the (seemingly) old-fashioned way.. with a loaf pan:

Recipes for iced tea, anyone?

Lately I’ve been craving iced tea (probably because it’s summer), but iced tea at your local cafe or supermarket can get pricey. In an attempt to save money, I’ve been looking up recipes and tips on how to make a good batch of it (I’d rather not go the method of pouring hot tea over ice, ahem). A quick search on Google showed me this recipe which I’m trying tonight:

I’ll update this post later with my verdict on that recipe. Anyone have any iced tea tips/recipes they’d like to share?
